Chinese streaming platform iQIYI (one of China's largest video services, often compared to Netflix) has faced widespread anger after announcing a database connecting actors' likenesses with makers of AI-generated films and dramas. Over 100 celebrities were said to have joined the platform, but numerous actors publicly denied signing up, and fans accused iQIYI of seeking to replace human performers with artificial intelligence. The company called the reaction a "misunderstanding," insisting actors retain full control over how their image is used, though legal experts cautioned that once image data enters AI training systems, the risks of unauthorised reuse become very difficult to control.
