British authorities have arrested two more men in connection with a vast illegal rubbish dump near Kidlington, Oxfordshire (a town north of Oxford in central England), bringing the total number of arrests to six. The dump, which appeared in a field beside the River Cherwell in late 2024, reached 10 metres in height and comprised an estimated 22,704 tonnes of waste — a clean-up that took five months and cost around £6 million. The Environment Agency, which made an exceptional decision to clear the site due to the fire risk it posed to the nearby river, says the two men — aged 21 and 43, both from Surrey — have been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.
