Former Kano State governor Ibrahim Shekarau announced his resignation from Nigeria's opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday at his Kano residence, declaring his intention to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The move follows an invitation from APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and comes ahead of President Bola Tinubu's anticipated 2027 re-election campaign. The defection is the latest in a long series of party switches by Shekarau, a two-term governor between 2003 and 2011, whose political realignments have consistently been shaped by his rivalry with fellow Kano powerbroker Rabiu Kwankwaso.
