Liberian authorities have charged five individuals and a logistics company following the interception of 237 kilograms of cocaine at Roberts International Airport (the main international gateway serving Monrovia, Liberia's capital), one of the largest drug seizures in the country's history. The cocaine, hidden inside boxes declared as containing Maggi stock cubes and traditional fabrics, was discovered on 7 June after inspectors noticed discrepancies between the declared weight, scanner images, and shipping documents; the shipment had been destined for Europe. Investigators say they have uncovered a broader transnational trafficking network using Liberia as a transit point between Latin America and Europe, and have also identified a similar consignment that left the country in May, with officials alleging that attempts were made to bribe customs agents after the drugs were discovered.
