South Africa is among seven countries invited to present their cases in November to the International Olympic Committee's future host commission for the 2036 Summer Games, with a bid that would bring the Olympics to Africa for the first time. It is seen as an outsider, however, with Qatar the reported frontrunner ahead of India and Hungary, while Turkey, Germany and South Korea are also in the running. The process is the first step toward a host vote in 2029, and a Doha Games would need to move from the usual July-August window because of extreme heat.
