A primary school in al-Mughayyir (an isolated Palestinian village north-east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank) has been enclosed with barbed-wire fencing after a sharp rise in attacks by Israeli settlers in the area. Six people have been killed in the village this year, including three of the school's own pupils — among them 14-year-old Aws al-Naasan, who was shot dead by a settler just outside the school gates in April. The village has been progressively hemmed in by settler outposts and is regularly cut off by Israeli military checkpoints; all Israeli settlements in the West Bank are considered illegal under international law, and many of the outposts surrounding al-Mughayyir are also illegal under Israeli law.
