A severe outbreak of skin diseases is sweeping through displacement camps in Gaza, with children disproportionately affected as malnutrition, overcrowding, and collapsed sanitation create conditions for rapid contagion. Data from Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) shows that of 1,325 people diagnosed with skin diseases across six clinics in April, more than 62 percent were children, while Gaza's Ministry of Health recorded over 17,000 ectoparasitic infections in 2026 alone. Doctors warn the crisis is compounding an already dire situation, as key medicines such as permethrin — a frontline treatment for scabies — have all but disappeared, leaving families with little recourse as food shortages and restricted humanitarian access continue to worsen conditions across the territory.
