South Korea's central bank has distributed 3.65 trillion won (approximately $2.69 billion) in new banknotes to commercial banks and financial institutions ahead of Chuseok (the Korean autumn harvest festival, one of the country's most important public holidays). The supply is notably smaller than the 4.44 trillion won distributed before last year's holiday, as this year's Chuseok falls over just four days compared with seven in 2025. The two-day holiday began on Thursday, with the shorter period reducing overall cash demand across the country.
