Dutch shot putter Jessica Schilder, a three-time reigning European champion who this year became the first woman in 14 years to throw beyond 21 metres, was left off the three-woman shortlist for European Athletics' woman athlete of the year; she had made the ten-name longlist. The finalists are Swiss 800m runner Audrey Werro, British sprinter Amy Hunt (four golds at the European Championships in Birmingham) and Italian distance runner Nadia Battocletti. The winner will be announced on 24 October at a gala in Lausanne, Switzerland, with no Dutch athlete shortlisted among the men either.
