Pakistan's Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), a major political party based in urban Sindh, has renewed its push for the creation of new provinces, with party chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui declaring at a Defence Day event in Hyderabad that administrative restructuring is not only permitted by the constitution but actively demanded by it. Senior leaders argued that Pakistan's growing population makes an increase in the number of provinces inevitable, framing the move as a governance reform rather than an ethnic or separatist demand. The party warned that despite recent diplomatic gains on the regional stage, chronic failures in basic service delivery — including child deaths linked to inadequate healthcare — stem from entrenched poor governance that only meaningful devolution of power can address.
