Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said both Kyiv and Washington are seeking to end Russia's war on Ukraine before winter, following what he called a "positive and productive" meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders discussed possible de-escalatory measures to open a path toward diplomacy, as well as a winter air defence package for Ukraine. Zelenskyy also signalled that Kyiv would halt its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure — a campaign that has knocked out a significant portion of Russia's diesel refining capacity — if Moscow agreed to stop targeting Ukraine's own energy sector and critical infrastructure in return.
