Spanish football club Rayo Vallecano has been stripped of access to its home ground, the Estadio de Vallecas in Madrid, after regional authorities found serious safety deficiencies including electrical faults and hygiene failures. The Comunidad de Madrid (the regional government that owns the stadium) has suspended the club's concession to use the venue while urgent repairs are carried out, a process expected to take between two and six months. The club must now find an alternative ground for the start of the La Liga season, with its first home fixture against Deportivo Alavés scheduled for 20 August, and cannot play that match at Vallecas.
