Liberia and Egypt signed a military cooperation protocol on September 27 that sets up a long-term defence partnership covering training, intelligence and security, logistics, and technical and professional exchanges, including for special forces. Liberian officials announced the deal in Monrovia on September 29 and said a joint committee with equal representation from both countries will oversee implementation and develop specific programmes. Liberia has also asked Egypt to post a defence attaché to its embassy in Monrovia, a step that would deepen Liberia's security ties with one of Africa's largest militaries.
