Belgian cycling star Remco Evenepoel has withdrawn from Wednesday's Flèche Wallonne (a one-day classic in the Ardennes region of Belgium, finishing atop the steep Mur de Huy climb) in order to conserve energy for Liège-Bastogne-Liège, held four days later. The announcement came just a day after Evenepoel, 26, won the Amstel Gold Race, and leaves the Flèche without its other headline draw, as defending champion Tadej Pogacar is also absent this year. Evenepoel has twice ridden the Flèche with modest results, and will now focus on the Monument where he is considered a stronger contender.
