Turkish authorities have arrested 90 people across 24 provinces on suspicion of membership in, financing, or promoting the Islamic State (IS) militant group. The sweep comes roughly two weeks after a 7 April shootout near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul in which two police officers were wounded, though officials have not formally linked these arrests to that incident. Turkey has been a recurring target of IS attacks, including a 2015 suicide bombing in Ankara that killed 103 people and a 2017 New Year's Eve nightclub attack in Istanbul that left 39 dead.
