Inter took the lead in the 14th minute through an own goal by Montenegrin defender Adam Marusic, before Argentine captain Lautaro Martínez doubled the advantage in the 35th minute. The second goal came after Dutch international Denzel Dumfries broke forward down the right flank and delivered a sharp pass into the box, leaving Martínez with a simple finish into an empty net. Dumfries was substituted in the 68th minute, while fellow Dutchman Stefan de Vrij remained an unused substitute throughout. Lazio's Dutch contingent — midfielder Kenneth Taylor and forward Tijjani Noslin — played the full match but were unable to make an impact.
The closing stages turned fractious, with a mass confrontation between players resulting in four yellow cards, though the scoreline remained unchanged. The victory is Inter's tenth Coppa Italia title in their history, placing them second on the all-time list of winners behind Juventus, who have lifted the trophy 15 times, and moving them clear of Roma on nine.
For Martínez, the goal was his 175th across all competitions for Inter, making him the club's third-highest scorer in history. He is now chasing Alessandro Altobelli's tally of 209 goals for second place on that list. The win also settled an old score: the last time these two sides met in a Coppa Italia final was in 1999–2000, when Lazio won over two legs.
The double represents the high point of a commanding season for Inter, and underscores the club's return to the summit of Italian football after years in which rivals Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli had taken turns at the top.
