The US government has warned defence contractor V2X to evacuate its employees from Kuwait and Iraq, citing the risk of attacks by Iran-backed militias, according to four sources familiar with the matter. On 9 April, US State Department officials met with V2X leadership to raise concerns about a potential militia strike on the Balad airbase (also known as Martyr Brigadier General Ali Flaih airbase) in Iraq, where workers report hearing drone activity and gunfire daily and say bunkers lack adequate protection. Following earlier media reports about the situation, roughly 100 employees were flown out of Erbil in northern Iraq on 14 April by charter plane, though others were told to remain because the military still required their support — with management warning that self-initiated departures would be treated as voluntary resignations.
