Pakistan received a record $41.6 billion in workers' remittances during fiscal year 2026, an 8.6 per cent increase over the previous year, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The figure surpassed the government's official target and was described by an adviser to the finance minister as the country's "highest-ever annual remittances in history," reflecting resilience in Pakistan's external sector despite regional uncertainties, including tensions stemming from a US-Iran conflict that had raised concerns about the Gulf labour market. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were the largest sources of inflows, together accounting for over $1.6 billion in June alone, underscoring the central role of Pakistani migrant workers in those economies.
