Dutch prosecutors say criminal activity involving explosives is now the leading theory behind a powerful blast that struck a residential area of Amsterdam's Osdorp district (a neighbourhood in the city's west) last week. Two men aged 23 and 24 are suspected of causing the explosion, endangering lives, and possessing or preparing explosives — including possible ATM bombings — and have been remanded in custody for a further two weeks; local newspaper Het Parool reports both were seriously injured, with one losing a leg and a half and an arm. The blast, which occurred in an outbuilding beneath a block of flats on the Remijden, injured seven people in total and forced around 400 residents to evacuate.
