The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed mandatory inspections of seats on 453 American-registered Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, warning that improperly installed seats could come loose during an emergency landing, injure passengers and crew, and obstruct aisle evacuations. Boeing said it had already issued guidance to operators on the matter in December 2025 and expressed support for the FAA making that guidance mandatory. The warning is the latest in a prolonged period of safety scrutiny for Boeing, which has faced regulatory and public pressure since a cabin panel detached from an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 mid-flight in January 2024, an incident later linked to four missing bolts.
