Pakistan's field hockey team has been knocked out of the FIH Hockey World Cup (the sport's premier global tournament) after losing 5-3 to India in a pool stage match at Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh scored twice from penalty corners, with Abhishek adding two field goals and Hardik Singh converting a penalty stroke, while Pakistan's Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan could not prevent the early exit. The result, which ended a 16-year World Cup drought in fixtures between the two rivals, sent India and England through to the second round, leaving Pakistan — who had also lost to England and drawn with Wales — without a path forward in the 16-nation competition.
