Al Jazeera's open-source verification unit found that a widely shared video, said to show a solar-panel-equipped funfair cart weaving through Beirut traffic because of high fuel prices, is very likely AI-generated or digitally altered. Three AI-detection tools rated it 93% to 99% likely to be synthetic, the clip showed distorted licence plates and inconsistent reflections, and it was first posted by an Instagram account that regularly publishes fabricated scenes about Lebanon. The finding matters because Lebanon, which has endured a severe economic crisis and currency collapse since 2019, is a frequent subject of misleading online content that exploits real hardship. The source does not itself report on current fuel shortages or the state of the economy.
