Eight-time world champion Marc Márquez has fractured his right foot after a heavy crash in the MotoGP sprint race at Le Mans (the historic French circuit in the Sarthe region), when he fell in the penultimate lap while entering the final corner. The Ducati rider was taken to the circuit's medical centre, where a scan confirmed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal, and he underwent surgery in Madrid on Saturday evening. Márquez will miss at minimum the French Grand Prix and the Catalan Grand Prix the following weekend, while his participation in the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello on 1 June remains uncertain; he also revealed he will use the recovery period to undergo a separate shoulder operation to remove a screw affecting his radial nerve, a legacy of an earlier injury sustained in Indonesia.
