A new report by the Washington-based Tech Transparency Project (TTP) found that Meta ran 332 paid advertisements featuring AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) across Facebook and Instagram over a ten-month period, with roughly a quarter of those ads appearing in India. Critically, 78 of the India-based ads were published after the Indian government had explicitly ordered Meta to remove such content and held direct meetings with senior company officials. Meta said it does not tolerate child exploitation in any form but acknowledged its systems are not perfect, while Indian child rights advocates have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding mandatory reporting of CSAM to local law enforcement — a step Meta has not taken.
