A bear killed a man in his 40s and seriously injured a woman in her 50s overnight on Wednesday after entering their ger (a traditional round, tent-like nomadic dwelling) in the Bayanzurkh district near Ulaanbaatar, police said. The woman escaped and alerted neighbours, and rangers are now hunting the animal. Officials say bear sightings near the capital have risen from two in 2018 to 24 this year, which they link to factors including climate change and food scarcity. Authorities have issued bear-hunting permits in eight provinces and are seeking tranquilliser dart guns for rural rangers.
