Rukhsar Ahmed, a former Pakistani state minister arrested in Britain on suspicion of raping and trafficking underage girls, has declined to say when he will return to the UK to meet his bail conditions. Ahmed, 61, was arrested at Manchester Airport in July 2024 on allegations linked to the abuse of girls from care homes in Rusholme (a neighbourhood in Manchester) during the 1990s, but was released on bail and subsequently flew to Pakistan, where he was elected to parliament under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party. He has denied all allegations and says the matter is in the hands of his legal team, but Greater Manchester Police may seek his arrest or pursue extradition if he fails to answer his bail within the next six weeks.
