Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya travelled to Abidjan (Ivory Coast's commercial capital) on Friday for talks with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, with the two leaders agreeing on Sunday to strengthen cooperation across security, trade, and politics. Doumbouya highlighted the need for closer intelligence sharing to combat cross-border crime and terrorism, warning that the region faces mounting security challenges. He also flagged illegal gold mining as a strategic priority, citing a 2024 report estimating that up to 40 percent of Africa's gold output goes undeclared, costing the continent billions of dollars in lost revenue.
