The Netherlands will prohibit the import and transit of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in occupied territories starting 22 September, Foreign Affairs Minister Berendsen has informed parliament. The measure, which also applies to Dutch companies operating abroad and will remain in force for three years, aims to ensure the country does not contribute economically to what Prime Minister Jetten described as "an unlawful occupation." The Netherlands had pushed for an EU-wide ban, but lacking sufficient support among member states, it joins Belgium, Spain, and Ireland in implementing national-level restrictions instead.
