The Thai capital will host the inaugural Global Convening on Informal & Shared Mobility (GLOCON) from 26 to 28 October 2026, marking the first international conference dedicated to transport modes such as matatus (shared minibuses common in East Africa), tuk-tuks, and jeepneys (iconic Filipino shared taxis). The event will bring together researchers, policymakers, operators, and community representatives to push for the formal integration of these services into public transport networks, and will coincide with the launch of the ISM Global Declaration, a framework aimed at making informal transport more equitable and sustainable. Billions of urban and rural commuters worldwide rely on such privately operated, often unregulated services as their primary means of travel, making the conference a significant step toward shaping policy that reflects that reality.
