North Korea has completed a 7,000-square-metre railway station at the Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone (a flagship beach resort on the country's east coast championed by leader Kim Jong-un), state media announced on 28 August. The Myongsasimni Railway Station was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by senior officials including Vice Premier Pak Hun, with state media describing it as a model for local railway stations built to serve tourist travel. The opening is part of Pyongyang's broader push to develop domestic tourism at the resort, which opened in June 2025 and can accommodate up to 20,000 visitors at a time; the country has also launched twice-weekly flights between Pyongyang and Wonsan since late July to boost visitor numbers.
