A military-escorted convoy transporting around 140 civilians in northern Ghana was ambushed on Monday, killing three civilians and wounding one, the Ghana Armed Forces announced. The attack occurred near Binduri as the convoy travelled from Bawku to Bolgatanga (towns in Ghana's Upper East Region), with soldiers repelling the assault and killing seven assailants; ten suspects were arrested and a G3 rifle and ammunition recovered. The violence is the latest eruption in a decades-long conflict around Bawku rooted in chieftaincy disputes between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups, making the area one of Ghana's most persistent security flashpoints despite repeated government and traditional mediation efforts.
