Florida carried out its fifth execution of 2026 on Tuesday, putting to death Chadwick Scott Willacy, 58, for the murder of Marlys Sather in Palm Bay, Florida. Willacy had caught Sather returning home during her lunch break to find him burglarising her house, after which he fractured her skull, bound her, and set her alight with gasoline; an autopsy confirmed she was still alive when the fire was lit. Maintaining his innocence in a final statement, Willacy was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 6:15 p.m. at Florida State Prison (a maximum-security facility near Starke, in northern Florida), after both the U.S. and Florida Supreme Courts denied his last appeals.
