Spain has set a new record with 677 beaches awarded the Blue Flag distinction for 2025, adding 35 more than the previous year and cementing its place as the country with the highest concentration of such beaches globally. The Blue Flag (an internationally recognised eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education to beaches meeting strict standards for water quality, safety, and environmental management) now flies over 15% of all certified beaches worldwide at Spanish shores. The Valencian Community on Spain's eastern Mediterranean coast leads among the country's regions with 151 Blue Flag beaches.
