The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed Pakistan's medical regulator to examine and report on excessive working hours for doctors, after a petition highlighted that some physicians are required to work up to 102 hours per week. Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas described such schedules as inhuman, noting expert evidence that after 24 hours of continuous duty a doctor's cognitive impairment is equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.1. The case matters because it could compel federal and provincial governments to adopt enforceable limits in line with international standards, such as the 48-hour weekly cap in Europe and the 80-hour ceiling in the United States.
