Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost, 71, was reportedly injured during a violent home invasion at his residence in Nyon, a town on the northern shore of Lake Geneva in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The incident took place at around 8:30am on Tuesday, and Swiss and French authorities have launched a large-scale search operation for the perpetrators, who remain at large.
According to the Vaud cantonal police, several balaclava-wearing individuals broke into the home while the family was present, threatened the occupants, and inflicted minor head injuries on one family member. The intruders then forced another family member to open a safe before fleeing with stolen items, the full value of which is still being assessed. "The perpetrators entered the residence while the occupants were present, threatened them, and forced one family member to open a safe before fleeing with the stolen goods," the public prosecutor's office confirmed. A psychological support team has been provided to the family in the aftermath.
The Swiss tabloid Blick, which first identified the victim as Prost, reported that the French racing legend was "visibly shaken by this brutal intrusion" and has since left the property. Police have not officially named those involved. The cross-border nature of the response — involving both Swiss police and French border security — suggests authorities believe the suspects may have fled across the nearby French frontier.
Prost is one of the most decorated drivers in F1 history, having won four world championships across a 13-year career with teams including McLaren, Renault, Ferrari and Williams. His titles came in 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993, placing him behind only Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton (seven titles each) and Juan Manuel Fangio (five) in the all-time standings.
The attack underscores a broader concern across Europe about targeted robberies against high-profile individuals in their private residences. Swiss authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible continue.
