Senegal has formally announced its intention to bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with Sports Minister Khady Diène Gaye making the declaration before parliament and in meetings with officials. The bid reflects the country's broader ambition to attract major international sporting events, having already secured the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, but it faces significant infrastructure hurdles — only one stadium, in Diamniadio, currently meets international standards, and at least six would be required for a 24-team tournament. Senegal last hosted AFCON in 1992, and the candidacy will face stiff competition from Egypt, Ethiopia, and a potential joint bid by South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) yet to officially open the bidding process.
