Nigeria claimed its first-ever team gold medal at the African Archery Championships, finishing the 15th edition of the continental competition in Oran, Algeria (a Mediterranean port city and Algeria's second-largest urban centre) with a record haul of seven medals — one gold, five silver and one bronze. The gold came in the barebow women's team event, where Faith Adekogbe, Mandu Eteidung and Precious Fanny-Amun defeated hosts Algeria 5-3 in the final, with Adekogbe also earning two further silvers in the individual and mixed team events. The result, achieved by Nigeria's largest-ever archery contingent of 18 athletes, marks a significant step forward for a country that the Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) says has shifted from simply participating to competing for titles on the continent.
