Dutch rider Demi Vollering won the women's European road race title in Slovenia, one week after taking the world championship in Canada. She attacked about 15 kilometres from the finish on the final ascent of the Mozjanca climb and rode alone to victory, with teammate Puck Pieterse taking silver in the sprint ahead of Switzerland's Marlen Reusser and Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini. It is Vollering's second European title and caps a standout season that also included wins at the Tour of Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, while extending Dutch dominance of the event to nine wins in the last ten editions.
