Zambia has halted negotiations with the United States on two major agreements — a $2 billion health deal and a critical minerals partnership — after Foreign Minister Mulambo Haimbe declared Washington's terms "unacceptable." Lusaka objected to US demands for data sharing, which it says would violate citizens' rights, as well as insistence that American companies receive preferential access to Zambia's mineral resources, which include significant copper reserves (Zambia is Africa's second-largest copper producer). The government also rejected the US practice of linking the two deals together, joining Ghana and Zimbabwe in pushing back against Washington's approach to foreign partnerships under President Donald Trump.
