Venezuela and the Dominican Republic have agreed on a roadmap toward the gradual restoration of diplomatic ties, which were severed after Santo Domingo refused to recognise Nicolás Maduro's contested 2024 re-election. Venezuela's foreign ministry described the agreement as the outcome of "sustained dialogue" aimed at re-establishing institutional channels of communication between the two nations, with flights between Caracas and Santo Domingo already resuming in February. The rapprochement is part of a broader diplomatic realignment by Venezuela's interim government — led by Delcy Rodríguez following the January capture of Maduro by US forces — which has sought to rebuild ties with estranged partners and engage more closely with Washington.
