Rivers burst their banks in Albania and Montenegro after days of severe winter weather in the Balkans, with at least one person dead in Albania, where a 54-year-old man was swept into an irrigation canal in Durrës. In southern Albania the Vjosa River flooded the Vlorë region (a coastal area on the Adriatic), prompting evacuations and boat rescues, while about 300 people were sheltered and around 800 buildings needed clearing of water. In Montenegro the Zeta River inundated some 30 homes near Danilovgrad, and soldiers built a pontoon bridge near Podgorica to replace a destroyed crossing; authorities warn that more snow and ice could bring further disruption. Note: the source covers Albania and Montenegro and does not report on flooding in Austria.
