Italian club Juventus handed Dutch side NEC (a club from the city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands) a heavy 5-0 defeat in their Europa League group-stage opener in Turin, with the score already 3-0 at half-time. NEC goalkeeper Nikolas Polster made costly errors for the first and fifth goals, while Juventus — themselves coming off a 3-2 domestic loss to Sassuolo — were further aided by a mistimed NEC challenge that conceded a penalty, converted by Nick Woltemade. NEC will have a month to recover before hosting Bulgarian side Levski Sofia in Nijmegen on 15 October.
