Authorities in Ibiza (the Spanish Balearic island known as a major tourism hub) cleared the Sa Joveria settlement on Tuesday, deploying local and national police to dismantle over 100 makeshift shelters that had housed more than 130 people in caravans, shacks, and tents. Many residents were hospitality, construction, and cleaning workers — largely of Sahrawi origin — unable to afford rent in one of Spain's most pressurised housing markets, with some reportedly paying between €200 and €500 a month to individuals exploiting their vulnerability. The city council provided emergency accommodation for 14 households and individuals, and a further eviction at the nearby Can Misses site is scheduled for 29 April.
