A US federal judge has ruled that admissions made by Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou can be used as evidence in the upcoming criminal trial against the Chinese telecommunications giant. Meng acknowledged in a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement — which led to her own charges being dropped — that she had lied to banks about Huawei's compliance with Iran sanctions, and Judge Ann Donnelly of Brooklyn federal court rejected Huawei's argument that the statement could not be used against the company. The trial, which also involves charges of trade secret theft, is scheduled to begin jury selection on 8 September.
