Pakistan claimed a five-wicket victory over Australia in the first one-day international in Rawalpindi on Saturday, in what was the team's 1,000th ODI. Debutant spinner Arafat Minhas made history by becoming the first home bowler to take five wickets on ODI debut, finishing with figures of 5–32 as an under-strength Australia — missing Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head — were bowled out for 200 in 44.1 overs. Pakistan reached the target in 42.3 overs, with Babar Azam (69) and Ghazi Ghori (65) sharing a 127-run partnership for the third wicket to seal a comfortable win; the two remaining matches in the series are scheduled in Lahore on Tuesday and Thursday.
