The late Nigerian musician Fela Kuti (pioneering creator of Afrobeat, a genre blending jazz, funk, and West African rhythms with political commentary) has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, making him the first African artist to receive the honour. The induction follows a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Kuti in December, also a first for an African musician. The recognitions mark a landmark moment in the global acknowledgement of African contributions to popular music.
