A Balkan Insight investigation found that 11 Serbian men who described rape, coercion and harassment in relationships, workplaces and public venues had not reported any of it to police, and most had told almost no one, fearing ridicule, pity or disbelief. Sociologist Hristina Cvetincanin Knezevic says patriarchal ideas that a "real man" always wants sex make it hard for male victims to recognise or name what happened to them; only one rape case involving a male survivor reached a Serbian court between 2022 and 2025. The findings highlight a largely hidden problem and the need for broader public understanding that consent is specific, can be withdrawn at any time, and cannot be assumed from circumstances such as a date, alcohol or a dating app.
