Authorities in Kosovo have uncovered skeletal remains believed to belong to at least 23 individuals during excavations at three suspected mass graves in the Zubin Potok area in the country's north. The remains are thought to be those of ethnic Albanians abducted in the town of Mitrovica and killed in the spring of 1999, during the war between Serbian forces and Albanian independence-seeking rebels that left around 13,000 dead and 4,000 missing. DNA testing has been ordered, though results may take months, and three local men have been arrested on suspicion of war crimes against civilians — part of Kosovo's decades-long effort to account for the roughly 1,600 people still missing from the conflict.
