Senegal has increased pump prices for petrol and diesel, with super petrol rising to 990 CFA francs per litre and diesel to 755 CFA francs per litre as of Saturday, 15 August. The government attributed the move to a sharp rise in international oil prices linked to ongoing Middle East conflict, noting that diesel costs on global markets have climbed 69 percent and petrol 61 percent since late February. Dakar says it absorbed more than 245 billion CFA francs in fuel subsidies this year before acting, and stressed that pump prices still remain below actual import costs, with social protection measures in place for vulnerable households.
