Attacks on mosques in the United Kingdom have reached alarming levels, with more than 70 incidents recorded over the past year — roughly one every five days — according to the British Muslim Trust, the government's designated partner for monitoring anti-Muslim hatred. Attacks range from vandalism and property damage to harassment, intimidation and online abuse, with London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands identified as the worst-affected areas; one Birmingham mosque alone has been targeted three times in the past 12 months. Anti-Muslim hate crime in England and Wales rose 19% in the year to March 2025, according to Home Office figures, prompting the Trust to call on the government to streamline access to a £40 million mosque security fund — which currently requires applicants to demonstrate specific risk and has left some mosques waiting up to 18 months for support.
